in a non rushed ,stress free
holistic way.
We will be taking in different parts of
the spectacular historic area. Sea
Kayaking, walking .and snorkelling .
Castletownshend harbour,
Roaring Water Bay, Baltimore, Sherkin Island,
Carbery's hundred isles and Loch Hyne,
are just some of the areas you will be visiting. Our time will be spent exploring the pristine waters, sea caves and
archways, and sharing the environment of the varied marine life.
we will get to hike along then wild cliffs.
In the villages you will
enjoy, great food
and accommodation, and maybe even sharing a pint
or some music and the craic (Gaelic for
fun) with friends in a smoke free pub (!)
This tour is designed for beginner and intermediate kayakers.
Day
1
Our adventure
begins with a first night’s stay at a local guesthouse . We will meet up for a briefing , where we discuss
the tour itinerary and make sure everyone is happy with all arrangements.
Day
2
After a
great Irish breakfast, we will head
to the sea . Our first trip see us
in Castlehaven Harbour, flanked by the Historic village of Castletownshend.
This morning we spend time getting
to know our visitors kayaking level and giving tuition and advise where
necessary, also making sure all the equipment is suitable to their
needs
This is a truly beautiful bay.
Sharp cliffs on which Peregrine
falcons make their nests. Out to Horse Island and Black rock to see the
sea birds tumbling in the up draughts. exploring caves and archways as we
go. Returning at lunch time. We then take a break . We recommend a visit
to the Heritage centre in the local market town of Skibbereen before
having dinner in one of Skibbereen's fabulous restaurants. Later that
evening we again meet up this time we depart on one of our very special
trips a night time sea kayaking adventure. To night we kayak on Lough
Hyne. This is one of Ireland’s best kept secrets, this
salt water lake is fed by the sea
through a narrows where the tide rushes through at great speed. The lake
is a unique marine habitat, the only one of its kind in Europe. Bio luminescence, stars, ghost stories, night noises of herons, owls and
feeding fish are just some of the ingredients which go into making a night
paddle so magical. Tired but
elated from the West Cork night in, we now retire to our accommodation.
Some people go to bed and get ready for tomorrow’s adventure.
Others shower and set off to hear some Irish music and soak up the
Celtic atmosphere.
Day
3
After breakfast,
day three of our sea kayaking adventure sees us setting out from the
historic village of Baltimore, ancient seat of the O’Driscoll’s.
En route we will explore the area called Carbery’s 100 Isles, the
coves and inlets of Roaring Water Bay, famous for their picturesque
unspoilt beauty. Our
destination is Sherkin Island and our landing point is close to the Abbey
ruins, which date from 1215.
We now swing west and explore the Skeam Islands, visit the seal colony off
Spanish Island, and stop for lunch. Afterwards,
we make our way to the mouth of Baltimore Harbour and look up at the
Beacon towering over the harbour entrance. We
finish our trip at Baltimore Lifeboat station . Our dinner this evening is
savoured watching the sun sink down behind the Mizen Head. Looking forward
to reappearing tomorrow and bringing fresh adventure.
Day
4
Launching our kayaks in the fishing village of Union Hall .
We make a course to the South passing the village of Glandore and drifting
under the Drombeg stone cirlcle. Echoes of the Celts can be heard amongst
the gentle waves lapping on the rocks. We pass Adam and Eve
Island. The sailing charts say "avoid Adam hug Eve" No doubt written by
a man.. Lunch is on Rabbit Island where we explore the ruins and marvel at
the sinister rock formations. Then on to High and lo Islands about
one mile off shore where we will share the water with the Grey Seal pups
as they bask on the rocks. We finish our trip to day at Castlehaven Bay

area or to move on up the coast

Marine Discovery Combination
Tour.
Combine the stealth and manoeuvrability of our kayaks
with the speed and range of twin engine engine 34 foot catamaran,
Voyager. The result
is our new
very special Marine Discovery Combination Tour. With the kayaks on board we
head straight out to sea in search of wild life and get to otherwise unreachable areas for a kayak.
During the trip we regularly launch the kayaks and explore sea
caves, the uninhabited islands or drift on the open ocean current out of sight of land
while dolphins or sun fish check us out. There is even the possibility of
a close encounter with whales.
Mean time we have the security of Nic and his catamaran
on stand by a short distance away. There is
also an
incredibly diverse population of bird life in this area, including
gannets, shearwaters and skuas . The oceans are so vast the kayaks so small and slow
this combination gives us incredible freedom and safety. During this trip we use a combination
of double and single kayaks. If the temperature suits we also get a chance
to snorkel around the rocks and islands.
This trip begins at 4.30pm and finishes about 8pmpm
This trip is suitable for beginners and experts.
Price per person 90euro.p/p
Points of interest : Catamarans are very stable because of their
double hulls.
There is a cabin area and toilets on board. for more see:

The Sea from
all Levels
For this spectacular day out we team up with Con Minihane on his
state of the art sail boat
:The Inishbeg .
www.baltimoreyachtcharters.com

We divide our group into two.
While one group is introduced to sea kayaking. The other group sail with Con around Sherkin
Island towards Cape Clear. While on the boat each persons gets a chance to
steer and sail the boat themselves. Hare Island is your destination where
after 3 hours of fantastic exciting sailing, Con serves up one of his
famous lunches.
By now the kayakers arrive having circumnavigated Spanish Island and
frolicked with the seal colony. After a shower and lunch the kayakers now
become the sailors and the morning sailors don their kayaking gear and are
introduce to their new marine transport. We retrace our various
bearings and meet up in the evening at Baltimore Pier. This time not the
Algerian invasion ,but a group of tired happy boaters head for the local,
a debrief and possibly a pint?
This trip is especially suitable for team building.
